[Warning] — Facebook’s new feature ‘Facebook Marketplace’ isn’t as ‘friendly’ as advertised. People will try to rob you.

Let’s start off with the basic understatement, what is ‘Facebook Marketplace?’

TechCrunch: “a friendlier Craigslist”

The Verge: “sell items with nearby users”

Facebook Marketplace mostly as what it states. It’s a marketplace where you can sell items in a nearby radius where you live in. Most sales are done by within the Facebook app, in the dedicated Marketplace section. Or if you want your item to be noticed more, you can join a ‘Sell Group’ and post it in the group (sometimes filled with 11k+ members). These Sell Groups are created by locals in your area, you have to request to join the group in order to make a posting or see any of the items that are for sale.

Note: Facebook won’t take responsibility if you get ripped off, and it certainly will not get involved if someone decides to assault you and steal your item at the designated meeting place.

Like with most things that are Internet related, you can’t do normal things without being a goddamn Eagle (aka the seller) looking for the right rabbit (aka the buyer). It’s getting to that point where you have to ask key questions in…
